Wireless Technologies Glossary

RF – Wireless mouse technology has become an effective catalyst of transformation. The wireless mouse can operate through RF or radio frequencies and entails two basic components which are the radio transmitter and receiver. The mouse can be connected to the computer through a cable of blue tooth technology for the wireless unit. The wire-free model is powered by batteries and uses an RF of 2.4 Giga Hertz to connect to the CPU. This is preferred by laptop users because of its light weight and compact feature. It is more convenient than most varieties which are quite difficult to maneuver on any kind of surface. The wheel-like contraption enables the user to perform several functions all at the same time. Spend time to go through detailed wireless mouse reviews since these will give consumers a comprehensive idea about these important contrivances.

Bluetooth – Bluetooth technology refers to the worldwide short-range wireless technology that permits electronic devices to hook up and communicate with each other. It replaces cable technology and is found in mobile phones, headsets and MP3 players. It is another term for short-range radio frequency technology that runs on 2.4 GHz and capable of transmitting voice and data. The effective range of Bluetooth devices is approximately 32 feet or 10 meters. Bluetooth transfers data at the velocity of 1 Mbps. This is three to eight times the average speed of parallel and serial ports, correspondingly. The idea behind this invention is to eliminate the need for wires. Bluetooth is appropriate for connecting two point-to-point devices. On the other hand, Wi-Fi is an IEEE standard meant for networking.

Wi-Fi – Wi-Fi was originally meant for mobile computing devices such as laptops and local area network systems. However, it is now frequently used for the internet, VoIP phone access, gaming, and basic connectivity of consumer electronic. Anybody with a Wi-Fi device, such as a computer, telephone, or personal digital assistant can connect to the internet if near an access point. Wi-Fi is also instrumental in creating a wireless mesh network. Wi-Fi enables connectivity in peer-to-peer mode so devices can link up directly with each other. This connectivity mode is useful in consumer electronics and gaming applications.

Infrared – Infrared is described as energy similar to visible light. It has a longer wavelength and cannot be seen by the human eye. However, while visible light energy is released by objects only at a very high temperature, infrared energy is emitted by all objects at normal temperatures. Infrared energy from objects is fed by optics onto an infrared detector. The infrared information is forwarded to sensor electronics for image processing. The signal processing circuitry transforms the infrared detector data into an image that can be seen on standard video monitor. Infrared wireless is the utilization of wireless technology in devices or systems that send data through infrared radiation.  Infrared is said to be electromagnetic energy at a wavelength longer than those of red light.
